Quality Early Childhood Education Head Start/Early Head Start:

What is Head Start and Early Head Start?

Our Head Start and Early Head Start programs support a multifaceted approach to early childhood education focusing on the most vulnerable families in our community. At CCA, our child development services offer families support in areas such as mental health, social and emotional development and nutrition for children ages 0-5.

We deliver Head Start and Early Head Start programs in partnership with school districts, charter schools, social service providers, and philanthropic partners to ensure our programs are aligned with state-funded pre-K and create lasting results.

Head Start and Early Head Start:

  • Delivering early childhood education
  • Developing the whole child, including socio-emotional development
  • Engaging parents as advocates and leaders (two-generation approach including parent education)
  • Building connections to primary care physicians and health insurance
  • Preparing early childhood educators -including degree attainment
  • Connecting children early to disability and mental health services

Educational services include:

  • Full-day early education using proven, evidence-based curriculum
  • Child assessments and developmental screenings
  • Exploration through play
  • Strong teacher-child-family interactions
  • Nutritional meals and physical exercise
  • Referrals to an onsite delivery of disability and mental health services
  • Access to primary care provider and health insurance

Do I qualify for Head Start / Early Head Start services?

Head Start → for preschoolers ages 3-5
Early Head Start → Infants and toddlers (children under 3 yrs. by September 1st), women who are pregnant and teen mothers.

Head Start Eligibility

Child must be 3 years old by September 1st

Automatic Qualifiers:

  • 100% poverty level
  • Homeless
  • Foster Care
  • Public Assistance (TANF & SSI ONLY)

No income requirement:

  • Disability – As defined by LEA and Part B standards.

Early Head Start Eligibility

Child must be 3 years old by September 1st

Automatic Qualifiers:

  • 100% poverty level
  • Homeless
  • Foster Care
  • Public Assistance (TANF & SSI ONLY)

No income requirement:

  • Disability – As defined by LEA and Part B standards.

In addition to automatic qualifiers, CCA’s Head Start program prioritizes families who meet 100% poverty guidelines, teen parents, families with homeless children, children in the foster care system, families of children with special needs, and children with other at-risk factors related to academic underachievement.
